Summer is originally from Texas and has lived in Las Vegas for the past 8 years. While she practiced mat Pilates in college and loved the way it made her feel, she didn’t take the dive into getting her certification until 2016. Being the mom of a ballet dancer inspired her to take her own fitness more seriously and get educated!

At Sage Pilates and Wellness, we value experience, education and passion. Because we believe in quality, each of our instructors is carefully chosen for his or her diverse and unique fitness background and experience. In addition to National primary fitness certifications, our instructors are educated in the STOTT PILATES® method of movement and are trained to program exercises for people of all fitness levels as well as those within the specialty population.
You will find that each of our instructors has a tremendous passion for helping people feel successful and achieve their goals at any level.
She completed her comprehensive mat and equipment Pilates certification through DK Body Balancing, developing a passion for all things Pilates along the way! She has since become certified in Barre Above and qualified in TRX Suspension Training, and looks forward to any opportunity to further her health and wellness education.
Summer loves that Pilates offers countless modifications, making it something everyone can feel successful doing, no matter their age or fitness level.
When she’s not teaching she enjoys practicing Pilates and Barre, spending time with her husband and daughter, and supporting her daughter’s dance education at the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre.
The first part of her journey began after an injury in 1986, she received physical therapy support and it was that experience that peeked her interest to become a Physical Therapist. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Utah in 1996 and began her career as a physical therapist.
Her entrepreneurial spirit called her to open her own Physical Therapy company called Sage Physical Therapy in 2006. She operated this company offering home health services and managing Physical Therapist Assistants to provide support to individuals needing rehabilitation after an injury or illness.
Supporting your wellness has been part of Shelley’s life and prompted her to start teaching group fitness classes in 1985. Over the past 30 years she has taught a wide variety of formats including Hi-Low Impact, Step, Body Pump, Spin and Pilates. She has continued to grow in her education and certifications as she has a commitment to providing her students with the best and most up-to-date methods and equipment for their physical wellness. The most recent training has been in TRX suspension training and she will soon be adding that to the classes she offers at Sage Pilates.
The second part of her journey began when she was introduced to Pilates in 2006. Shelley found that Pilates helped her achieve greater body awareness and core strength. She knew this was something she wanted to share with others so she trained and certified in STOTT PILATES® Mat and Reformer in 2007. She continued her education and achieved full certification on all Pilates’ equipment in 2014.
As a certified STOTT PILATES® Instructor, certified Fitness Instructor, and licensed physical therapist, she enjoys working individually with clients as they rehabilitate from illness or injury. Shelley has a passion for educating, instructing, and coaching others to achieve and maintain an active lifestyle. For her own personal wellness, she loves to run, hike, do Pilates and spend quality time with her family and friends.
